Musiciansfriend.com is a website that has helped me in the past with research that i have done on countless guitars. It provides specs and technical information on a large range of guitars. It also provides consumer reviews and discription of these guitars. This site really has been my friend in the search for guitars.

Jimi Hendrix

College of Marin will be hosting a class on the life and music of Jimi Hendrix the world renowned guitarist. The class runs on Thursdays from 7:10 to 9:00 pm from the dates of January 20 through March 12. The class will be taught by Steven Roby, the rock archivist. The content of the class will include:

• Learn the real story behind “Purple Haze,” and why Hendrix was banned from the BBC.
• Read court transcripts from the 1969 Toronto drug bust and examine his F.B.I. files.
• Discover Hendrix’s unreleased autobiographical sci-fi rock opera, and hear of projects with jazz legends Miles Davis, Roland Kirk and Gil Evans. Debate the controversy over Hendrix’s death in 1970. Guest speakers will be announced. Steve has also worked for the family of Jimi Hendrix.

This class is back by popular demand, and seems like it will be a great opportunity for those that have an interest in the life of this amazing guitarist. Sign up now if you are interested because spots fill up very quickly for this popular class.

My Classic ’60s Stratocaster

I play out of a Fender Classic Players ’60′s Stratocaster. It is Mexican made, but it is one of the best feeling guitars I have ever played. The fact that it is Mexican means that there will be a great variation in the quality of each guitar, but if you are careful when selecting the guitar. In terms of technical specs is a fairly typical strat. It has an Alder body, that comes in either 3-color burst, black, Lake Placid Blue, and Candy Apple Red. It has a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard and 21 vintage style frets. It is equipped with three Vintage Style Single-Coil Strat, a five way pickup selector, one volume control, and two tone controls. It has a Vintage Style Synchronized Tremolo bridge. I suggest doing some research on this model it has served me well for more then a year now and it is still going strong. When I got it is was in need of some setting up but over all it has been a great guitar. Thanks and see you next time.
